Alto soloist - Symphonic Adiemus, March 2024
Lucy Thalange is a vibrant mezzo-soprano with a passion for opera and literature. Her specialty is patter music, particularly in French. She studied at the Royal Academy of Music where she was able to fine tune her communicative performance style. Lucy is very interested in weaving history and sociopolitical themes into programmes to create a story for her audience to follow.
In the world of opera Lucy’s strong choral background has led her to participate in the opera choruses of Royal Academy Opera’s productions of Tchaikovsky’s Iolanta, Ravel’s L’enfant et le Sortilèges and Massenet’s Cherubin. The success of these productions led to Lucy’s first principal role of Third Boy in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte.
Lucy’s performance of French repertoire has been described as ‘dynamite’. In 2022 she was awarded the Flora Nielsen prize for Best French Song. Her love for song spreads to any language however and perhaps no repertoire is more vast than that of German Lieder. Having worked extensively with Richard Stokes and Sholto Kynoch Lucy has developed a deep love and intensive knowledge for what shapes German music and poetry. This culminated in Lucy performing the alto solo role in Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony.
Lucy’s future projects include a concert series alongside the Holocaust Memorial Day Trust and taking on opera school.
