BETH MACHELL
Clarinet - Weber - Clarinet Concerto no. 2, November 2019
Beth is originally from Redbourn in Hertfordshire but moved to Manchester last year to begin study at the Royal Northern College of Music where she was awarded a scholarship to further her playing. She is taught by Nicholas Cox and Gabor Vargor for clarinet but also learns Bass clarinet with Sarah Watts and E flat with Rosa Campos. Alongside clarinet Beth has also achieved grade 8 distinction in both Saxophone and Piano.
Prior to studying at RNCM Beth attended Junior Guildhall where she learnt with Neyire Ashworth and was principal clarinet in the Junior Guildhall Symphony Orchestra. Beth has also played in a number of other orchestras including the principal of the National Youth Wind Ensemble, Wyatt sinfonia, Amadeus Orchestra, National Children’s Chamber Orchestra and playing Bass and E flat clarinet the Hertfordshire County Youth Orchestra. In 2018 she really enjoyed going on tour to Romania with the London Schools Symphony Orchestra when she played both clarinet and saxophone. Since coming to Manchester Beth has also played in a number of RNCM ensembles including Wind Orchestra, Concert Orchestra and Brand New Orchestra. Beth also enjoys playing chamber music where she has performed in a number of groups at junior guildhall and the British Isles Music Festival. Currently Beth is the clarinettist for the Anemoi quintet who have made recordings and performed in concerts both in London and Manchester.

Aside from her playing Beth has organised a number of charity concerts, the most recent in aid of Mind raising over £800. Beth is passionate about how musicians can use their skills to benefit others so hopes in the future to tailor her skills in this way.
