ABOUT WYATT SINFONIA
Wyatt Sinfonia was founded in 2018 by Zoë Kundu and is based in East London. It draws together young professional musicians and students from top conservatoires and universities around the UK, usually meeting for a few days of rehearsals before a performance. It has a strong emphasis on facilitating community music, both to make concerts available to the local community, and to enable local people to participate in concerts. Wyatt Sinfonia has hosted five successful 'Come and Sing' events, in collaboration with Victoria Hay and its host church, St John of Jerusalem. The group is also committed to playing lesser known works from across Europe, as well as new commissions, and has performed the UK premieres of several pieces of Croatian music, notably Pejačević’s Symphony in F# minor. It serves as an opportunity for players to perform exciting repertoire, as well as for composers and soloists launching their careers to work with an orchestra.
Wyatt Sinfonia has developed with its players. It started as a youth orchestra, made up of local players who also played with the National Youth Orchestra and the London Schools' Symphony Orchestra. As these students moved on to university and conservatoires, the orchestra was able to tackle increasingly difficult repertoire. The players' maturity was demonstrated in their performance of the full ballet of Ravel's Daphnis et Chloe in 2019. The players are now young professional musicians, having graduated from conservatoires, and the orchestra is particularly developing its community music programme, alongside high-quality concert performances.
Wyatt Sinfonia is named after Mary Wyatt, who was a piano teacher and organist, and great-grandmother of Zoë Kundu.
Wyatt Sinfonia is reliant on donations and ticket sales to continue, so is grateful for any support you are able to offer.
